Yes of course she knew 😦 I have short hair and know how difficult it is to find a suitable hair dresser. Perhaps I should try a barber.

It's so hard isn't it!? I've toyed with the idea of going to a barber, or at least a hairdresser who is barber trained.

Oh Lyndsay, I love this post - you're brilliant, you really are!

It's come at a perfect time for my own latest hair considerations (consid-hair-ations?) - I'm suddenly desperate for a short haircut again - very short at the back and sides with floppy layers on top - the way I cut my husband's hair, in fact - he has floppy layers. Had an undercut to way above my ears for a few years before Covid, longer, straightish hair on top, tied back all the time - LOVED IT - Jim would minister weekly to the undercut with his beard trimmer! The undercut is long grown out now, but all I ever do with my hair is to tie it up, and we're going to have lots and lots of camping trips this year and I NEED IT SHORT.

You're a star, and inspiration and someone to really look up to in your very measured reaction to what might well have been, for me, an end-of-the-world moment. AWESOME.

😘

Ohh thank you Rebecca, you are honestly too kind!!

It sounds like you should most definitely go for the chop! I love the sound of short at the back and sides with floppy layers on top! I've never been brave enough for an undercut but one of my friends has in the past and it looked very cool.

I still can't believe I had that undercut - it was pretty dramatic - but back then I was doing a lot of running and gymming and swimming, and having so much less volume of hair was brilliantly liberating! I haven't been to a hairdresser since long before the start of Covid, but I feel it's time!

Not quite as bad as your experience, but I'll never forget the time my regular stylist was cutting my short hair in the front (me turned away from the mirror, of course), and I heard her say, "Oh, my God." Not what you want to hear when someone's cutting your hair. She had picked up the wrong scissors, and instead of using the special ones which cut at two different lengths to create a choppy look, she had used regular ones which chopped the entire line of hair off at a ridiculously short length. Fortunately my hair grows very quickly because, as you note, there's really no way to fix that.

Oh Deborah!! Those are NOT the words you want to hear when you are getting your hair cut are they!? I'm not sure how I would have reacted having been sat in the chair at the time - a part of me was glad I didn't realise until I got home haha. And no, there really is no way to fix that! I hope it did grow back quickly? Is she still your regular hairdresser?

Fortunately, it did grow back fairly quickly, as this happened about 2 months before my wedding! And no, that hairdresser is long gone; my husband and I will be celebrating our 38th anniversary in June.
