A moment with ... resolutions
The power of visualisation when it comes to achieving your goals
Hello you
How do you feel about setting New Year Resolutions? I sit on the fence as I seem to do with most things. I find them useful to a point but they seem to come with a certain amount of pressure from having to start them all on January 1st otherwise you’re deemed a failure before you’ve even begun. At the start of 2023, rather than set resolutions, I did something a little different - I created a vision board to display the things I wanted to keep a focus on throughout the year ahead. This felt more appropriate, more achievable, to me as opposed to writing out worded resolutions. And for someone who loves to write, I wonder if that’s odd? But sometimes visual aids are just better.
A vision board can carry you through the year, they don’t have to be set-in-stone resolutions with SMART targets. It’s simply a vision. An image of the things you would like to bring into your life, to have in your life, a way for your life to be. You can capture your aspirations and set your intentions for the year ahead, you can record the thoughts and feelings you want to carry with you. And by keeping visual reminders of your goals, your subconscious mind is more likely to stay aligned with these aspirations and intentions.
For 2023 my vision board included a myriad of things. A pile of books. An image of a woman running. Yoga. Substack! A colourful stack of fruits and vegetables. There were travel inspired visions. My favourite is this image below depicting my desire to grow throughout the year. It’s the one that has been most prominent for me and something I absolutely want to continue into 2024.
